The latest edition of the International Tourism Fair, FITUR 2021, took place from 19th to 23rd May 2021, as agreed by IFEMA and the FITUR Organising Committee, following a carefully considered decision which, exceptionally, deems this event to be essential to the recovery of tourism, enabling it to retain its strong international impact and allowing companies, countries, and destinations to come together and give global tourism a much-needed boost.
The IFEMA convention centre concentrated all its efforts on hosting an event capable of contributing to the recovery of tourism at a time when FITUR will play a critical and decisive role in invigorating this business.
To this end, it is particularly important to focus on optimizing the appeal and pulling power of this event, in addition to enriching its specialized contents and new business niches, as well as promoting spaces of knowledge that contribute to relaunching national and international tourism, as one of the biggest drivers of economic growth in the world and especially in Spain, where tourism is the most important sector, both in terms of GDP and employment.
For the 2021 edition, FITUR has digitalized the event, complementing the face-to-face fair with FITUR LiveConnect, an online platform that welcomes the entire professional tourism community, offering its members the opportunity to connect and share information.
The second most important tourism fair in the world
FITUR has the unanimous support of the Spanish tourist industry. It is currently the second most important trade fair in the world and the top-rated fair in terms of its impact in the Ibero-American context. Each edition brings together more than 11,000 companies from 165 countries as well as official representatives from many of the world’s nations.
It is also the biggest event in Spain around the tourism business, with more than 250,000 attendees from all over the world, as well as in terms of innovation and the promotion of new tourism segments, technological leadership in tourism management, and knowledge transfer tools.
Its representativeness is also recognized by the backing of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), based in Madrid; a connection that is also materialized in the framework of the WTO Affiliate Members Board, which is currently chaired by IFEMA/FITUR.
This annual event represents an economic impact of 330 million euros, with the consequent direct impact on the recovery of tourism and the invigoration of sectors linked to tourism in Madrid.
