Following a series of successful Build-Up Rides, the 11th edition of the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge took place earlier today applying a full Covid-19 management plan.
Set against the most spectacular views of the city, UAE’s thriving cycling community took full advantage to enjoy the opportunity to ride and race their bikes over 94km through the streets of Dubai.
The 2021 event and route included many innovations, including the ever-famous Global Village and much anticipated Expo 2020 Dubai grounds, with the race start and finish located at the Dubai Sport City.
The leading men’s invitation group started out at a steady and fast pace, but in the end they were taken by surprise as 16 year old Lance Lumanlan got the jump on the group, and held his lead, finishing the race in a time of 2:11:02. Michael Testori sprinted to 2nd place in 2:11:37, and Simon Henley one second behind. In the women’s race, Helle Bachofen von Echt took to the top step, clocking a time of 2:31:15.
In addition, Owen Ehlers and Michelle Lindqvist were crowned winners of the inaugural Dubai BIG5 Challenge after posting the best cumulative time over the series. The BIG5 included all the Build Up rides, and the 94km main event.
