WWE TO CROWN NEW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION AT NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS IN JEDDAH ON MAY 27

WWE TO CROWN NEW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION AT NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS IN JEDDAH ON MAY 27

WWE® has announced the return of the beloved WWE World Heavyweight Championship title belt, with a new champion to be crowned at the upcoming live event, Night of Champions, set to take place on Saturday 27th May in Jeddah.

Returning to the WWE Championship Belt Line-up in 2023, more than two decades since the debut of the title when Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque emerged as the first holder, the championship will see two top champions across the WWE rosters to mark a new era for the sport following the upcoming WWE Draft. It was a fitting moment for Levesque to announce the return of the championship as a five-time holder of the belt during his Hall of Fame career.

Since the championship was officially introduced to WWE in 2002, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt has been held by new winners on 66 occasions, with Hall of Fame superstars including Ric Flair, The Undertaker, Rey Mysterio and Shawn Michaels previously being crowned World Heavyweight Champion. As one of the most coveted titles since its inception, the belt has frequently changed hands with the longest holder being Batista, as the Hollywood star held the title for over 280 days between 2005 to 2006.

The championship has often been the centre of controversy too, with several champions holding the title for less than 24 hours before defeat. Randy Orton – the most recent holder of the title – was the official champion for less than a day when he defeated then World Heavyweight Champion, John Cena to unify the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship before a sudden retirement in December 2013.

With the return of one of WWE’s most prized titles, new superstars across the WWE roster will be gunning for glory to be named the new World Heavyweight Champion when the bell rings on Saturday 27th May in Night of Champions in Jeddah.
