The Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup preliminary rounds continued at Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City on the second day, with the under-18s division displaying impressive skills and determination. Capping off an action-packed evening filled with twists and suspense, Al Ain and Baniyas secured their spots in the finals of the men’s and women’s divisions, and the finals will take place next weekend.
Saturday’s competitions saw young athletes, both boys and girls, from various jiu-jitsu clubs competing in intense matches, showcasing their techniques and strategies on the mat. The matches were closely contested, and the raucous crowd was on the edge of their seats as each competitor tried to outdo the other.
His Excellency Brigadier Mohammed Bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri praised the efforts of the UAEJJF, saying, “The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation has truly brought our country to global leadership in this sport while also spreading the culture of sport and expanding the base of practitioners. The Federation’s continuous work to develop local championships has been crucial in paving the way for our sons and daughters towards shining on international forums.”
“I’m impressed by the great turnout of male and female club players for the President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup which is one of the most prominent local tournaments, and the role played by clubs in developing jiu-jitsu and supporting the best of its players to leave their mark in this great forum. They are a major partner in the success of the federation’s programmes to advance the game and qualify players with the best training programs and technical equipment for excellence and success,” His Excellency added.
His Excellency Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club, expressed his club’s enthusiasm for the championship, saying, “We look forward to continuing the series of victories and successes achieved by the club in various tournaments in the current and previous seasons and to continue the qualitative shift by investing the talents of the players and the efforts of the coaches to win the most powerful Jiu-Jitsu tournaments.”
Flavia Quintareli, coach of the Al Ain women’s team, expressed her satisfaction with the team’s performance, saying, “The atmosphere is positive, the morale is high, and the confidence rate is at its best due to the good and appropriate preparations over the past months. We look forward to retaining the club’s achievements in the past years.”
Mira Sultan, a Baniyas team player, expressed her aspirations for the Cup, saying, “I was well prepared throughout the past period to participate in the President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup, and representing Baniyas Club enhances my motivation because it is the club that has achieved the adult title for four consecutive years, and the women of Baniyas have achieved many feats in this tournament.”
The preliminary round competitions will continue at Mubadala Arena on Sunday with fights for the adults division. Abdullah Al-Qubaisi, a player for Al-Wahda club who is competing in the adult championship on Sunday, expressed his happiness with the team’s preparations during Ramadan, saying the training went well over the past weeks in which he prepared with his teammates with full force. “I engage in mental exercises more than physical ones during the day in Ramadan, while the evening exercises are more physical,” he added.
