ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX NO-GI KICKS OFF SATURDAY WITH WIDE-SCALE INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix No-Gi championship will get underway at Jiu-Jitsu Arena in Zayed Sports City on Saturday with wide-scale participation from athletes representing various international academies. The competition, taking place less than a month after the UAE capital hosted two world championships, will help to further cement the emirate’s reputation as the “World Jiu-Jitsu Capital.”

The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro™ (AJP), organises the competition, which is open to competitors from all countries. Hundreds of athletes from clubs and academies across the nation and abroad will battle it out in the Kids, Youth, Amateurs, Professionals and Master divisions during the one-day event.

Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, the secretary-general of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, expressed his happiness at hosting another big event a few weeks after the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship and the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, came to a successful conclusion.

“It was remarkable that 7,000 male and female players from all around the world attended the two biggest world championships that we hosted last month. With the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix No-Gi now taking place, the atmosphere of enthusiasm and energy is on-going. The championship will bring together the world’s top athletes to battle for the championship title and earn 2,000 points that will help in their international ranking,” he said.

“There is a high demand for registration in the tournament from players of all ages and nationalities. This reflects the players’ confidence in the federation and the AJP tournaments, especially because the tournament serves as a stage for participants to continue honing their skills and connecting with the top players and talents from around the world,” Al Shamsi added.

In his turn, Tariq Al-Bahri, Director General of the AJP, said: “The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix No-Gi is one of the major competitions for athletes in clubs and academies at the national and international levels.

“The championship is a continuation of the top-class competitions held by the AJP in association with the UAEJJF, which draw substantial participation and solidify Abu Dhabi’s reputation as the top developer of the sport and the No 1 destination for mat champions,” he added.
