UAE ATHLETES SHINE ON DAY 7 OF ABU DHABI WORLD PROFESSIONAL JIU-JITSU CHAMPIONSHIP, BOOK SPOT IN PROFESSIONAL DIVISION MAIN BRACKET

Intense competitions and outstanding performances by the purple, brown, and black belts in the Professional division made Wednesday yet another thrilling day of action at Jiu-Jitsu Arena in Zayed Sports City.  Following the heated matchups in the country qualifying rounds, a number of players from different clubs and academies around the world have booked their spots in tomorrow’s main bracket.

Today’s competitions were attended by HE Abdul Moniem Al Hashemi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, President of the Asian Ju-Jitsu Union and Senior Vice President of the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation, HE Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, HE Mohamed Bin Dalmouk Al Dhaheri Board Member of the Federation, HE Saeed Ali Al Ghafli, Director of the Support Services Department at the Family Development Foundation, HE Mohammed Haji Al Khouri, Director-General of the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, Dr Mubarak Saeed Al Shamsi, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, and Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the UAEJJF.

His Excellency Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAEJJF, praised the athletes who took out remarkable performances today and said the ADWPJJC is currently entering the most decisive stage.

“The substantial public turnout during the championship demonstrates the rising levels of public awareness of the importance of this sport and its contribution to community growth. Abu Dhabi, as pioneer in the sport, has helped to create a foundation of champions that participate in this major event and other world championships,” he said.

Abu Dhabi commemorates Leandro Lo

The ADWPJJC has dedicated a special corner to commemorate Leandro Lo, one of the greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champions, who passed away at the age of 33, recently. Lo is considered one of the legends of the game and five times ADWPJJC Champion.

Good performance by UAE champions in the country qualifying round

The UAE champions, including Hamda Alshkeili (49 kg), Abdullah Al Kubaisi (94 kg), Asma Al Hosani (55 kg), Khaled Al Amri (85 kg), Mayed Alshehhi (56 kg), and Abdulla Al Junaibi (77 kg), were able to secure a spot for them in the next round of the Professional competitions in various categories, belts, and weights. Tomorrow, the athletes will hit the field in pursuit of medal success and a spectacular finale to the season.

Hamda Alshkeili, a purple belt from Baniyas Club, said she is prepared for the match tomorrow: “The competitions in Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship are challenging as it brings together seasoned champions who may have significant experience. I’ll fight with all my might to take home the gold,” she promised.

Purple belt from the Vision BJJ academy Ana Beatriz Silva said she anticipates challenging fights in tomorrow’s 62 kg competitions.

“We in Brazil are keen to be present at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship as it represents the most valuable reward for professionals and the culmination of their efforts throughout the entire season,” she said.

“We are enjoying our time in this important tournament for which we have prepared well,” said Roman Brun of the Strela Team Academy in Russia, who also qualified for the 85 kg brown belt main bracket tomorrow.

“I will do whatever it takes to win the title, as this tournament is very important to me and my career,” he added.
