Lexus Announces Partial Improvements to Battery EV “UX300e”

Following the launch of the UX250h/200 on July 7, LEXUS announced some improvements to the UX300e, the brand’s first battery EV (BEV) commercial model. The release in Japan is scheduled for spring 2023.

Since the release of the RX400h in 2005, Lexus has always pursued both excellent driving performance and environmental performance as a pioneer of electrification in the luxury market. Based on the “Lexus Electrified” electrification vision announced in 2019, through the popularization of electrified vehicles such as HEVs and PHEVs, we will meet the needs of diverse customers and markets, and make significant advances in basic performance using electrification technologies. We will continue to pursue the enjoyment of cars in any era. In 2020, Lexus will release the first BEV commercial model “UX300e”. In 2022, we announced the introduction of the new BEV-only model “RZ”. As of the end of August 2022, the cumulative number of electric vehicles sold has reached approximately 2.3 million units, and we will continue to accelerate the development and spread of electric vehicles to contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral society.

The UX300e has been well received by customers for its unique design and excellent maneuverability as an urban compact crossover, as well as the high-quality driving and excellent quietness that are unique to BEVs. Under the ‘Always On’ concept of constant pursuit of evolution, the partial improvements announced this time include the introduction of a newly developed battery pack, increasing battery capacity from 54.4 kWh to 72.8 kWh, and driving range of 450 km *1. , improved by more than 40% compared to the conventional model, we have realized the evolution of basic performance as a BEV. In addition, as part of the UX series, we worked to deepen the taste of high-quality, clean, and deep driving, expand the functions of preventive safety technology, and evolve advanced equipment that employs the latest multimedia system.

In order to deepen the taste of driving, the body rigidity was strengthened by running at Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama and adding 20 spot welding points on the body. In addition, BEV-specific battery packs are placed under the floor to lower the center of gravity, performance dampers *2 are fitted as standard in the rear, and optimal EPS and absorbers have all been tuned to achieve clean, deep driving.

In the evolution of advanced equipment, we aimed to make driving even safer and more enjoyable by expanding the functions of the preventive safety technology “Lexus Safety System +”. In addition, the latest multimedia system equipped with an enlarged/high-resolution touch display is adopted. In addition, the shape and switch layout around the instrument panel and console have been optimized, and usability has been improved with two new USB charging connectors (Type-C) in front of the console.
