As part of AlUla Moments calendar of events, the French-Algerian singer and songwriter Souad Massi will perform in a concert at AlUla Old Town on Friday, October 14th. The concert is the first one to take place at AlUla Old Town, and the audience will sit in an intimate, specially designed amphitheater with outdoor seating area between the majestic landscape of the mountains and ruins of the 800 years old destination.
Souad has a committed and passionate fan-base and is known for her path as a liberated woman singing about causes close to her heart. A singer / songwriter, she will perform songs from her tenth album “Sequana” which captures the passage of time, its preservation and the moment of passing on to next generations.
The album draws on a diversity of musical styles – folk, country, rock, calypso, bossa, along with sounds of the Middle East and the Algerian desert. Songs will include Dessine-moi Un Pays, Mirage and L’Espoir.
Her style was influenced by her up-bringing listening to Chaabi and Kabyle – songs filled with remarkable poetry, and with her growing interest over the time with the country music of Kenny Rogers, admiration to Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. With inspiration ranging from the Flamenco of Triana from Algiers, to heavy metal with Atakor, and her studies of Western classical music, Souad shaped a unique genre of music and songs.
The concert will set the stage for the new venue and series of AlUla Moments concerts at AlUla Old Town, a unique site full of majestic nature, heritage and culture.
