In the midst of a large presence of visitors of the “Riyadh International Book Fair 2022”, the young Saudi author Reem Al-Ghanimi signed her new book “Detained in the Dungeon of Papers” on the signing platform at the event. Authors from different countries were on the platform to sign their literary and scientific publications to the owners of their books; a group of intellectuals, writers and those interested in cultural affairs.
Young author Reem Al-Ghanimi explained that the book, issued by Takween for printing, publishing and distribution: “The title of the novel represents the silent inner feelings, recurring questions and illusions that form in the individual and appear in darkness or loneliness, their borders are the papers.” Adding that the book is 176 pages long.
The book bears inside it an author’s fear of the fragility of days and her struggles as she is arrested today in a cell in the cover of darkness, forcing her to adapt between her life and another world in which everyone is silent. And when judgement is passed on her she gets rid of that judgment with enjoyment, turning it upside down, and from that day the writer was able to create and embody her feelings.
The fine artist Saud al-Mahjoub collaborated with her, drawing her words and embodying them on paper in the book so that the readers as well as fans of fine art could enjoy between the folds of the pages, as she wrote her farewell letter. She always thought that getting rid of words must then be by believing that there was never a foundation for letters, and so the first pages of the book bid farewell, and when that book mediated in her heart, she remained for three years, not wanting to escape from it.
Therefore, she accurately described all she saw to feel the atmosphere of a family, while in the dark she realized the meaning of hope and meditation. Today, she refuses the impossible.
Reem wrote on the last page bearing the beginning, thanks to her family who did not drown out her talent and always motivated her to learn, love books and read them, to raise today a daughter living by their constantly repeated phrase “if one wants something the world cannot stand before them”.
