The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is set to play a pivotal role in the business growth across sectors within the Saudi Arabia economy and is spurring women empowerment and Saudisation in a big way, said Omer Abdullah Al-Nomany, Chief Executive Officer of solutions by stc.
Al-Nomany said this in a wide-ranging interview to Oxford Business Group’s online broadcasting channel, Global Platform. The video is available to view in full at https://oxfordbusinessgroup.com/video/omer-abdullah-al-nomany-ceo-solutions-stc
Al-Nomany said that one positive effect of the pandemic, amongst the challenges, had been the acceleration of digital business-to-business activity, with further expansion expected in the coming years as Saudi Arabia’s economic transformation gathers momentum.
“The digital drivers include many things, the most important being mega-projects, smart cities, health care, education and services sectors, including tourism,” he told OBG. “For any business to grow, it will depend on IT services going forward.”
Saudi Arabia’s focus on increasing local content and human capital, in line with the targets outlined in Vision 2030, was another topical issue explored, with Al-Nomany highlighting the Kingdom’s progress to date.
Al-Nomany said that solutions by stc determined to play a leading role to raise Saudisation in the ICT sector, in addition to empower females to become part of the ecosystem and developing their capabilities going forward, as well, especially with the increase of Saudi female graduates from the top tech universities in the world, and increase their demand on working in the ICT sector.
Marc-André de Blois, OBG’s Director of PR and Video Content, said the interview with Al-Nomany showed that Saudi Arabia’s commitment to putting new technologies at the centre of its economic development, in keeping with Vision 2030’s objectives, was already delivering results.
“While the pandemic undoubtedly accelerated the digital drive, Saudi businesses were already beginning to adopt new IT solutions to enhance their products and services, and expand,” he said.
“Our video clip highlights the many investment opportunities available in the ICT industry itself and others emerging across nascent sectors, as the Kingdom’s plans to move to a more diversified, knowledge-based economy gain pace.”
