NAWA TECHNOLOGIES SHOWCASES NEXT GEN ULTRACAPACITOR TECHNOLOGY AT SIA POWERTRAIN & ENERGY

NAWA Technologies (NAWA) will showcase breakthrough ultracapacitor technology at the SIA Rouen 2022 Powertrain & Energy conference for the first time this week – an energy storage innovation that addresses many of the challenges faced by an increasingly electrified automotive industry.

Based on NAWA’s breakthrough proprietary technology, Vertically Aligned Carbon Nanotubes (VACNT), the company’s NAWACap ® ultracapacitor is the world’s highest power ultracapacitor, exhibiting up to twenty times greater power compared to existing technology.

With all vehicles becoming increasingly electrified, both in terms of e-powertrains and ever-growing onboard power requirements for electronics regardless of powertrain, car makers are facing considerable challenges in electronics bandwidth. Thanks to its properties, NAWACap ® can play a key role in electrical architecture and complete e-powertrains.

NAWACap ® can be a solution when combined with conventional lithium-ion cells, creating a ‘hybrid’ battery system – optimising both energy sources to open new possibilities for all e-powertrains, greatly improving efficiency, reducing charging times and extending entire system life.

At its booth N03 at the SIA Rouen 2022 Powertrain & Energy, held on 15th-16th June in France, NAWA will show a NAWACap ®/li-ion hybrid battery demonstrator in the form of an electric motorbike.

NAWA is presently in the prototype phase with NAWACap ® customers, across markets including automotive, battery, industrial vehicles, sensor based IoT and power tools, with volume manufacturing of NAWACap® in Aix-en-Provence, southern France, set to begin in 2023.

Brigitte Robert, VP Sales & Marketing said: “The automotive and e-mobility industry is facing multiple challenges around electrification. Thanks to its unique power performance, the NAWACAP® ultracapacitor can play a pivotal role in the next generation of vehicle electrical architectures and as part of a total
e-powertrain solution in a hybrid battery. At the same time, as NAWCAP® is based on affordable and abundant carbon, it promises to be a sustainable and cost-effective solution too.”
