In a nice gesture, a number of media professionals and social media influencers responded to the invitation of Mohamed Yousef Naghi Motors, the authorized dealer of Jaguar Land Rover in Saudi Arab, to support and encourage Jaguar TCS Racing team as part of the launch of the 8th round of ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, which was held in Diriyah over two days for the fourth time in a row in Saudi Arabia.
Diriyah E-Prix 2022 was held at night for the second year in a row, after the Kingdom hosted the 1st night race in the history of the championship in 2021, with the latest LED lighting technologies designed to reduce energy consumption by up to 50% compared to other lighting technologies. This is a major goal to confront climate changes and achieve a better future for the race, by implementing continuous initiatives around the world, as the Kingdom is an ideal partner in the field of environmental, economic and social sustainability, in line with the objectives and programs of the “Kingdom’s Vision 2030”.
The inaugural electric car race for the 8th season began in the streets of Diriyah in Saudi Arabia at 20:00 local time on January 28 and 29, 2022, where it witnessed a remarkable public presence.
Driver Mitch Evans, who started his 6th season with the British racing team known as Jaguar TCS Racing, and Sam Bird in his 2nd season with Jaguar in Formula E, where the duo began a wonderful drive together on a race track which witnessed fierce competition between them in the past.
The duo drove Jaguar I-TYPE 5 under the lights in Diriyah, which showed a positive and outstanding performance during the official race, after showing a lot of excitement, skills and opportunities to compete and overtake had it not been for the collision with the walls of the track, which led to the destruction of the steering and the decline of the final results. Despite this incident, Sam Bird, Jaguar Racing Team “TCS” driver, managed to set the fastest lap in the second round of the Formula E World Championship organized by ABB in Saudi Arabia.
The ABB E Formula Championship for electric cars, accredited as an international championship by the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is the first global street racing series for electric full-powered cars. The main objectives of the championship are to address climate changes and achieve a better future by applying ongoing initiatives around the world in the area of environmental, economic and social sustainability. Formula E contributes significantly to the development of new technologies, renewable energies and electric vehicles.
