Building on the success of the Miss Esports platform – a Lenovo and Power League Gaming (PLG) initiative for more inclusive gaming, the duo today announces the launch of the Miss Esports League, a MENA-wide tournament for female gamers.
Miss Esports was developed in 2020, as an incubator and accelerator for young female gaming talent. It is also a content ecosystem for female gamers to openly share their ideas and views, ultimately providing a safe and secure environment for women to compete with one another. Running from 9th to 24th June 2021, the Miss Esports League represents the next step in the evolution of the Miss Esports platform and focuses on championing female gaming talent in the region.
Research conducted by Lenovo and Reach3 Insights reveals that 59% of women use either a non-gendered or male identity when playing games online to avoid conflict[1]. With an aim to make gaming a positive experience for all, Lenovo and PLG believe that female gamers must have the opportunity to develop and showcase their expertise on a public platform.
Commenting on the launch, Claire Carter, Marketing Director at Lenovo Middle East and Africa said, “We need to move beyond the stereotype of gaming being for boys and men alone – the data speaks for itself, with nearly half of gamers in the Middle East being women. Female gamers should be able to be themselves and compete, we need to bring the region’s talent up front and center. While the Miss Esports League is in some ways a celebration of female gamers, we also hope that this initiative inspires female gamers to grow in confidence and know that they can compete at the highest level!”
A one-of-a-kind, female-only Valorant tournament, the Miss Esports League gives gamers the opportunity to grow their skills and connect and compete with other leading talent. The tournament will consist of 3 individual qualifier stages, before the final knock-out round takes place between the region’s top 16 female gamers.
At the close of the tournament, 3 winners will be crowned:
- First Place: The full gaming experience, with Legion devices and accessories worth $5,000
- Second Place: Legion gaming laptop and accessories worth $3,000
- Third Place: Legion gaming laptop and accessories worth $2,000
