Nissan Formula E Team Claims Victory in Mexico City and Gears up for Jeddah ePrix

Nissan Formula E Team celebrated a remarkable triumph in Round 2 of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, with Oliver Rowland securing the team’s first GEN3 Evo victory through a series of stunning late overtakes. This thrilling success sets the stage for the highly anticipated Jeddah ePrix, the inaugural Formula E race in Saudi Arabia’s iconic Corniche Circuit, where the team aims to continue its winning momentum.

Starting fourth on the grid after advancing to the semi-finals of the duels, Rowland swiftly moved into the top three by Turn 1 on the second lap. Demonstrating strategic brilliance, he delayed activating his Attack Mode, seizing the perfect opportunity during a late Safety Car restart to surge from fourth to first in under a minute, ultimately clinching the victory.

Norman Nato, who faced a challenging qualifying session and started from P18, showcased his determination by gaining five positions to finish in P13, highlighting the team’s resilience throughout the race.

Tommaso Volpe, Managing Director and Team Principal, Nissan Formula E Team:

“It’s an amazing result for the team and to achieve this victory in Mexico, which is such an important market for Nissan, and in front of these brilliant fans is very special. Oli’s performance was excellent, with strong pace and brilliant overtakes in the very last laps of the race. Norman had great speed as well, but we made a mistake in qualifying which compromised his starting place and he couldn’t do much despite a solid drive throughout the whole race. Overall, it’s been an incredible day, and the performance this weekend gives us lots of confidence heading into the rest of the season, especially with the exciting challenge that awaits in Jeddah ePrix.”

This victory propels Nissan to second place in the Manufacturers’ Standings, with Rowland also climbing to second in the Drivers’ Championship. Building on their recent success, the team turns its focus to the upcoming double-header in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on February 14 and 15, 2025. After six successful races in Diriyah since 2018, the shift to Jeddah marks an exciting new chapter for Formula E in the region.

With the Jeddah race on the horizon, Nissan Formula E Team is eager to tackle the challenges of the iconic Corniche Circuit. Known for its fast straights, sweeping corners, and breathtaking Red Sea views, the track promises high-speed challenges that will test drivers and captivate fans with its electrifying atmosphere.

Adib Takieddine, Managing Director, Nissan Saudi Arabia:

“We are thrilled to welcome Formula E to Jeddah for the first time, marking a significant moment for motorsport fans in Saudi Arabia. Nissan’s recent victory in Mexico highlights our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and electrification, values that Formula E embodies on a global stage. With this momentum behind us, we’re excited to bring the adrenaline of Formula E to Jeddah’s incredible Corniche Circuit. The Jeddah ePrix offers the perfect opportunity to showcase cutting-edge technology and engage fans in this exciting journey toward a more sustainable future.”

After the thrilling success in Mexico, the stage is set for an exciting race at the inaugural Jeddah ePrix. This milestone race showcases Nissan’s ongoing commitment to innovation, sustainability, and electrification, as the company continues to push the boundaries of motorsport and bring cutting-edge technology to the forefront.
