Hedley Studios collaborates with renowned artist Alex Alpert to create two exclusive Bugatti Baby II models

Hedley Studios (formerly The Little Car Company), designers and creators of scaled automotive icons, has partnered with renowned artist, Alex Alpert, to create two limited-edition and totally unique examples of the Bugatti Baby II.

Each piece will be an exclusive commission that blends Alpert’s artistic individuality with Hedley Studios’ reputation and experience in creating pieces of collectible automotive art. The commission will feature a black and a white model, hand-painted by Alpert, with a corresponding piece of artwork to be sold alongside the respective model. Each client will have the unique opportunity to have a private consultation with Alex to design and commission a piece that is truly bespoke to their taste and requirements, ready to be installed in their home, garage or office.

Combining Alex’s distinctive style with the timeless elegance and prestige of the Bugatti Baby II, each commission will be a one-of-a-kind driveable piece of art. Alpert’s unique process for creating the pieces utilises black and white acrylic paint markers, which result in beautifully crafted yet versatile strokes, delivering opaque and bright colours that stand the test of time.

A very careful and meticulous preparation process ensured that each vehicle was ready for Alex as a canvas on which to bring his art to life. Each vehicle had a layer finely sanded down so that the acrylic marker paint could be properly applied, and once this had been achieved, the artwork was sealed with a layer of clear coat, finalising the stunning design.

Throughout the visualisation and the creative processes, Alpert drew inspiration from key visual images that are synonymous with the prestigious French marque. From the centenary of the Bugatti Type 35 to the brand’s home at the Château Saint Jean, and even the Dancing Elephant, designed by Rembrandt Bugatti, Alex ensured the heritage of the brand was recognised and celebrated in each piece.

Ben Hedley, Founder and CEO of Hedley Studios, commented: “Alex Alpert’s art is both thought-provoking and evocative, and this reflects the experience that we aim to deliver for our clients with our pieces of driveable artwork. We’re hugely excited to reveal this collaboration with Alex to showcase two totally unique Bugatti Baby IIs, and with his pedigree we’ve been thoroughly intrigued while seeing his creativity and flair in full flow.

“Alex has worked with some of the world’s biggest brands, from household names such as Nike, F1 and American Express, to leading brands and art shows like Diageo, Adobe and Art Basel Miami, so his experience and ability certainly speaks for itself. It’s been a real pleasure to host Alex in residency here at Bicester, and to provide him with a canvas to create something truly special, that will excite automotive and art aficionados around the world.”

Alex Alpert, artist and creative director, added: “I’m delighted and proud to have collaborated with Hedley Studios to paint these wonderful pieces. The Bugatti Baby II is a fascinating and meticulously engineered piece of automotive art, and I’m excited to have been given the opportunity to apply my own style and vision to two examples of the model. From working with the team, it’s clear that we have a shared idea and appreciation for unique pieces of art, which Hedley Studios creates with each model they produce. And with this project, we’ve managed to create something unforgettable.”

The Bugatti Baby II was the inaugural model created by Hedley Studios, formerly known as The Little Car Company, and is a meticulously engineered reimagining of the Bugatti Type 35.
