Bassam Freiha Art Foundation (BFAF) is set to close its inaugural exhibition, Echoes of the Orient, on 1 September.
Originally due to close in mid-August, the exhibition within the Main Gallery was extended by two weeks due to demand from the public. The exhibition served as a fitting introduction to the non-profit institution’s goal of showcasing rarely seen artworks, with a selection of works from the private collection of founder and philanthropist His Excellency Bassam Freiha going on display.
Through Echoes of the Orient, visitors were introduced to the Orientalist art movement, which has been a source of fascination to H.E. Bassam Freiha for more than five decades. By juxtaposing Western 19th-century works depicting imagined scenes in the East with pieces from modern Arab artists, the exhibition, curated by Dr. Michaela Watrelot, played a role in reclaiming the Orientalist narrative.
The A.D.D. Consultants-designed building will remain open to the public for events and workshops, details of which can be found on the BFAF website. A new exhibition will be announced shortly.
