Over the past weeks, the Malta Tourism Authority and Malta’s Ministry for Tourism and Consumer Protection have been working tirelessly on incentivising the various niches of Malta’s Tourism Sector, as the Maltese Islands is set to start welcoming tourists as from the first days of June.
Taking to Twitter, the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organisation, Zurab Pololikashvili, said that the key elements needed to effectively restart tourism are: policies which are based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals; committed resources; innovative strategies; and, efficient vaccine roll-out.
“I’m pleased to see that Malta is doing just that with the implementation of its 2021-2023 short-term tourism recovery plan,” he added.
Malta’s Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo, welcomed this endorsement and said that “having the backing of the UNWTO during such a critical time for the tourism industry, which is one of the major drivers of the Maltese economy fills us with the right amount of courage and strength to keep investing sustainably in this sector, through the Tourism Recovery Plan, and in the long-term, through our recently-launched Tourism Strategy, where our aim is to recover, rethink and revitalise.”
Malta Tourism Authority CEO Johann Buttigieg said that such an endorsement is proof that Malta is heading in the right direction in guaranteeing a high-quality travel experience, whilst keeping the health and safety of all tourists, and industry workers, at the forefront.
