The penultimate weekend of the Esports World Cup in Riyadh saw Team Falcons clinch overall Club Championship gold, while victory for Team Liquid in StarCraft II on Sunday extended their advantage in second spot.
Saudi Arabian club Team Falcons now have an unassailable total of 4,435 points. Team Liquid, meanwhile, based out of the Netherlands, soared from 1,485 points to 2,545 after Clem won StarCraft II and the club also picked up 60 points in EA Sports FC 24.
Success for Atlanta FaZe in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III saw FaZe Clan climb to sixth spot in the table thanks to the 1,000 points gained as champions. This added to FaZe Clan’s 60 points gained in each of the Rainbow Six Siege and Counter-Strike II tournaments at the Esports World Cup.
Korean team T1 are third in the Esports World Cup Club Championship with 1,600 points – meaning there’s all to play for in the eighth and final week of competition, both in terms of final placings and prize money.
The Esports World Cup, which has a record-breaking prize pool of $60 million, began on July 3 and comes to a grand finale at Boulevard Riyadh City with the epic Closing Ceremony on August 25. A total of 22 tournaments across 21 titles have filled the eight-week duration of the Esports World Cup with drama galore.
Sunday also saw an exciting appearance at the Esports World Cup by the former Ajax, Real Madrid and Inter footballer Wesley Sneijder. The Dutchman enjoyed watching EA Sports FC 24 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III action. Keeping the football theme, Tuesday sees Al Hilal and Brazil star Neymar compete in a hugely anticipated, celebrity showmatch at the Esports World Cup.
The eighth and final week of elite competition begins on Wednesday at Boulevard Riyadh City with TEKKEN 8 and PUBG Battlegrounds in action. The ESL and Rocket League tournaments start on Thursday. The PUBG Battlegrounds final is on Saturday, with the other three tournaments’ grand finals on Sunday. The Closing Ceremony features musical performances from international artists Steve Aoki, Kid Cudi and Sevdaliza.
