UNHCR Partners with OSN for the Release of ‘I am a Refugee, and this is My Story’ Docuseries On OSN Streaming During Ramadan

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and OSN, the leading entertainment hub in the Middle East and North Africa, have joined forces during the Holy Month of Ramadan for the release of the exclusive docuseries ‘I am a refugee, and this is my story’ to highlight the struggles of the forcibly displaced and amplify the voices of vulnerable refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs) across the globe. This release comes as part of OSN’s larger support of UNHCR’s efforts and #EverySecondCounts global Ramadan campaign.

Now available on the OSN Streaming App, the series aims to build empathy with vulnerable individuals in dire need of support and encourage the community to remember refugee and internally displaced people during this month of generosity and compassion.  The socio-economic impact of COVID-19 has pushed more forcibly displaced populations into deepening poverty with the loss of livelihood opportunities and income, leading to increasing levels of food insecurity and malnourishment. This campaign and partnership will highlight the incredible impact individuals can create within seconds, in the lives of displaced families whose lives turned upside down within moments and who have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety.

Commenting on the launch of the docuseries on OSN streaming, Houssam Chahine, UNHCR’s Chief of Private Sector Partnerships in MENA, stated: “We are delighted to be partnering with OSN Streaming for the release of this exciting docuseries and are grateful for OSN’s efforts and commitment in using its platform to show stories of refugees beyond the numbers and offer an opportunity to share not only their plight but also their dreams and ambitions. Duringthe Holy Month, we hope that this show brings wider attention to the global refugee crisis as we call upon Muslims and the wider community to keep refugees in their thoughts, and take action by donating their Zakat or Sadaqah.”

Rolla Karam, Interim Chief Content Officer at OSN said, “We are proud to be bringing this important docu-series to wide-reading regional audiences during the Holy Month, and to amplify the stories of displaced people. The powerful stories shared through the series give viewers an insight into the realities faced by many people across the world. This is the third year that OSN is supporting the UNHCR’s initiatives, using our platform to support worthy causes and we encourage all our OSN Streaming app subscribers to watch.

‘I am a refugee, and this is my story’ chronicles the inspiring true lives of 30 refugees and internally displaced people from various countries across the globe, including Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Rohingya, Somalia, Eritrea and South Sudan.

UNHCR and OSN first launched their partnership in Ramadan 2019, and have seen the collaboration expand to this first of its kind joint effort between a humanitarian organization and a streaming platform, for the co-creation and release of advocacy content. Further advocacy and awareness content are to be produced for release on OSN streaming in the near future.
