TikTok hosted a workshop in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to explore its latest campaign aimed at amplifying awareness and understanding of its Community Guidelines, ensuring platform safety across the MENA region.
The workshop, led by Dina Osman, MENA Safety and Integrity Program Manager at TikTok, took place at The Stage on July 11, 2024. The primary focus was to educate users about TikTok’s enhanced Community Guidelines and the measures in place to ensure a safe and welcoming platform. During the session, Dina Osman detailed the platform’s new updates and resources, including refined definitions and comprehensive policy explanations concerning hate speech, content moderation and overall platform safety. The updates also introduced features like improved account status checks and a warning strike system to guide creators on content violations.
The workshop underscored TikTok’s Community Guidelines as a comprehensive framework outlining the rules and standards governing platform usage. These guidelines are designed to adapt to emerging trends and potential risks, enabling TikTok to mitigate hazards associated with evolving online behaviors. The most recent updates, effective since April, were developed in consultation with over 100 organizations worldwide and members of the TikTok community. These updates include new features such as account status checks and detailed policy explanations, providing transparency and clarity about the platform’s rules and account standing.
Additionally, TikTok emphasized its robust content moderation efforts to ensure a safer community for everyone by employing a combination of automated technology and human moderation to swiftly identify and remove violative content. This dual approach ensures a high standard of content moderation, maintaining the platform’s integrity and safety. The platform also encourages its community to report issues and appeal content decisions, fostering a collaborative effort in upholding the platform’s standards.
The workshop is part of TikTok’s broader campaign to raise awareness in the MENA region about its Community Guidelines. Beyond the in-app tools and features, TikTok has partnered with some of the region’s most popular content creators who will create content and help drive awareness of the platform’s Community Guidelines. This includes creators such as Abdulaziz Al-Fudhili @SaudiSTG, Nader Al Qalaa @naderalqalaa, Badr Alhanaky @badr_hi who have shared their tips and tricks to navigate TikTok’s Community Guidelines. Under the hashtag #SaferTogether, the campaign’s landing page is accessible to the MENA community on TikTok where they will be able to watch videos from their favourite content creators who will share concise tutorials and guides on understanding the platform’s Community Guidelines and safety features and about the importance of understanding these guidelines and how that would help elevate the quality of content they publish.
