The Riyadh 2023 Global Esports Games (#GEG23) concluded in thrilling fashion last night as a trio of nations secured hard-fought victories on the fifth and final day of the flagship multi-title competition.
Hosted by the Saudi Esports Federation (SEF) and presented by the Global Esports Federation (GEF), #GEG23 witnessed another extraordinary spectacle on the grandest stage of global esports.
After four days of exhilarating gameplay, the Dota 2 Open, Dota 2 Women, and eFootball™️ 2024 finals capped off an unforgettable week in Riyadh as epic action and supercharged showdowns gripped the SEF Arena one more time.
“The Riyadh 2023 Global Esports Games have been an incredible success and it’s been an absolute privilege to host such a prestigious competition in our Kingdom’s capital – one of the fastest-rising international esports hubs in the world today,” said Saudi Esports Federation CEO, Turki Al-Fawzan. “The Games have been fantastic from start to finish and I’m sure esports fans near and far are beyond satisfied at the way the tournament went out on a high.
“With three finals scheduled for Saturday, the stage was set for some of the world’s best teams and athletes to showcase why esports is now the most popular sport worldwide. I believe they achieved precisely that and on behalf of the Saudi Esports Federation, I’d like the congratulate both the winners and runners-up on what they’ve accomplished this week. They’ve been a credit to themselves, their countries, and the entire esports community as always. Well done to all.”
The #GEG23 finale kicked off with Kazakhstan versus Malaysia in the Dota 2 Open final. The objective? Destroy the enemy’s ancients before they destroy yours to seal glory and global supremacy. After a drama-packed best-of-three contest that went the distance, Kazakhstan emerged as the victors 2-1. With Dota 2 being one of the world’s biggest esports titles, Kazakhstan’s historic victory in the eight-team tournament is sure to inspire up-and-coming athletes in the years ahead.
A similar effect is also sure to transpire thanks to more mesmerizing gameplay in the Dota 2 Women final. In what was a brilliant advert for professional women’s esports, Malaysia overcame Peru to secure outright victory with an emphatic performance.
Heading into the final, Malaysia had not dropped a single game, overcoming both Thailand and Argentina 2-0 in best-of-three encounters. This trend continued yesterday with another 2-0 win, sealing a flawless campaign en route to the team’s well-deserved status as “Best in the World”.
The last of Saturday’s finals then saw Iran face Jordan for the eFootball™️ 2024 title – with both nations represented by an elite athlete. Honors were even in the best-of-three showdown after one game following a 1-1 draw.
In the second, Jordan edged the game 2-1 and followed this up in the third with a 1-0 win to seal victory. The hero for Jordan this week was ‘S.HACKER.55’ who overcame the very best eFootball™️ 2024 athletes from the Netherlands, Colombia, Poland, and Iran on route to #GEG23 glory.
