Unique Iftars and Suhoors
Far from city lights, remote desert lands create some of the world’s most enviable dark skies, making AlUla’s idyllic locale, and dramatic rook formations spectacular for star and moon gazing.
Star and Moon Gazing Iftar and Suhoor Experiences will be held outdoors amongst Gharameel’s mystical rock formations on alternative nights, starting at 5:30pm and 10:30pm respectively. Cost: SAR 350 per person.
Elephant Rock Suhoor provides the unique opportunity to enjoy games and gather with family and friends under the stars, and in the foreground of one of AlUla’s most iconic natural rock formations. The special Ramadan-only setting is open from 6pm – 1am, and only for the first 10 days of Ramadan. Cost: SAR 50 per person.
The Old Town Market with its numerous restaurants and cafes, including Merkaz, Al Rahbas, Suhail, One o One Burger and newcomer Palm Garden will a be open from 3pm to 5am daily, offering Iftar and Suhoor options and refreshments.
Ramadan Night Adventures
The Adventure Night Trail is a 3 to 4 hour guided hike through the extraordinary canyons of Al Madakheel and Sharaan Nature Reserve, providing opportunities to discover the local flora, fauna, as well as various rock art and drawings. The adventure starts from 9pm on Thursday and Saturday nights only, with a difficulty rating of Easy to Medium. Cost: SAR 295 per person.
The Hidden Valley Night Hike is a 1.5hr journey through one of AlUla’s most secluded and enchanting canyons. Offering stunning views as well as wide open desert landscapes, the hike starts from 9pm and is only available on Friday’s during Ramadan. Cost: SAR 175 per person
The Jaddah Night Hiking Trail starts from 9pm on Mondays through to Fridays each night during Ramadan, and leisurely takes intrepid adventurers high above the valley and the AlUla Oasis, to look down on the hundreds of date palms far below, lit by a star-studded night sky above. The hike takes 3 hours. Cost: SAR 250 per person.
The Elephant Rock experience starts from 8 pm till 4 am during Ramadan, with the onsite café, Key, enjoy the delicious sweets and warm beverages to stimulate all the senses and make it an experience never to be forgotten. Cost: complimentary from Sunday to Wednesday and 50 SAR per person from Thursday to Saturday.
AlUla is such a noteworthy destination because of its layer upon layer of human history and a wealth of natural wonders waiting to be explored. Few locations can boast such a rich combination of heritage, culture and natural beauty.
Morning Heritage Excursions
Hegra, built in the first century BCE by the Nabataean Kingdom, is an ancient desert city home to thousands of tombs cut into sandstone mountains. The first registered UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Kingdom, tours to the historic sites are conducted once daily at 3:30pm during the week, and from 9am and 3:30pm on the weekends during Ramadan. Cost: SAR 75 per person
Dadan & Jabal Ikmah Tours, showcasing the magnificent stone building remnants of the Dadan and Lihyan kingdoms, followed by Jabal Ikmah’s open air library of rock inscriptions from ancient languages as varied as Aramaic, Dadanitic, Thamudic, Minaic and Nabataean, to name just a few, can be visited on weekends from 4pm throughout Ramadan. Cost: SAR 60 per adult and SAR 30 per child.
Old Town Tours, conducted by a local ‘rawi’ or storyteller/guide, allow visitors to explore the labyrinth of mud brick buildings that date back as early as the 12 Century, right through to the 20th Century, and will operate from 4:30pm during weekdays and both 9am and 4:30pm on weekends during Ramadan. Cost: Adults SAR 70. Children SAR 35.
Alternatively enjoy the Old Town Market which will be open daily from 3pm to 5am.
The Oasis Trail is a free activity that can be conducted without a guide between 8:30am and 4:30pm daily. It’s a 3km walk from Dadan South and ends at the Old Town, passing by the green oasis of AlWadi, offering visitors an extraordinary nature stroll through the AlUla farms, suitable for families and nature lovers of all ages.
The Cycling trail, where the visitors are following the pack leader on a leisurely bike ride crossing through the sand dunes and surrounded by AlUla’s unique landscapes. This 14 km trail boasts stunning vistas and is suitable for ages 12+. During Ramadan only one tour will be available from 5 pm and expected to return by 7:30 PM. Cost: Adults SAR175 SAR. Children SAR 140.
