UFC FIGHT NIGHT®: VETTORI vs. HOLLAND QUOTES & RESULTS

Marvin Vettoridefeated Kevin Hollandvia unanimous decision

Marvin Vettori:

I knew he was really wild. When he goes for strikes, he really throws himself in. He’s either out or in. If he clinches, there’s no point for me to get off the clinch. You risk his short elbows he throws off the clinch. So I was looking for strikes and he would just jump in, so I was like I’ll just clinch him and get him down. He would clinch me and I’d have the advantage. Why would I get off the clinch and risk anything? So I just took him down. Hats off to him, because he was sharper today than his last fight. He wanted it more. He had way more urgency in getting back up. It was a good fight. I want to go back and watch it. I wanted to stop him, but couldn’t. Still, it was 50-44. I had a dominant performance.

The arm-triangle was tight. I don’t know how he got out. He’s skinny. It’s hard to get him. I’m a little bit angry about that, but it was a good performance. I strive for perfection, but sometimes I fall short. I still had a dominant performance. I’m still happy and I want Adesanya next. This October, I think I’m next in line.

I wanted to fight so bad. When they said Till was hurt, I was like I’ll fight whoever. I was literally asking for a light heavyweight fight. I was asking for anybody. I’m game. No problem.

I’m already the best in the world. I keep focusing on myself and working on everything. I’m a very complete fighter.

Arnold Allendefeated Sodiq Yusuffvia unanimous decision

Arnold Allen:

Two prospects trying to break through is always going to be a tough fight. It’s not like when you get a young prospect fighting an old veteran. Sometimes the prospect blows away the veteran and stakes his claim. When it’s two prospects, it’s usually a tight matchup. All respect to Sodiq. He’s tough as hell.

In the first, I wanted to feel his power a little bit to get his timing. He hits hard and is tough, but he is a little slow. I could see the shots coming. I was able to block them and I dropped him. I chased the finish and didn’t get it, so I ended up clinching. The second round, same thing. I noticed he was dropping his hands, so I was able to put that kick through. I tried to finish him again. This dude is tough. I spent a little too much energy chasing two finishes. In the third, he came out and pressured. I fought a bit safe knowing I was two rounds ahead. I was a little bit tired from hunting the finishes. Adjustments to make for the future.

I haven’t had a knockout finish in a while. I know how hard I hit, but I haven’t proven it to the world yet. I need to prove it. There was a lot of pressure on myself to get that finish.

When I fight people, I don’t think they give me a lot of respect. Do I get the respect off this fight? I don’t know, maybe. Whatever’s next.

Julian Marquezdefeated Sam Alveyvia second-round submission

Julian Marquez:

It was super amazing for me, my career and confidence. Understanding that I made the right decision to go to Glory MMA & Fitness, I’m trusting the process and my coaches. It’s a huge leap for me.

He can take those punches. He’s a veteran. He knows how to fight hurt. I’ve seen it many times throughout the time I’ve been watching him. I just realized I wasn’t going to put him out, especially on the ground throwing little punches. So when I transitioned to the back, I saw him bring his head up and I just took the most readily available option. That was the rear-naked choke.

I take a lot of pride in finishing him, but I was able to use my fight IQ to get his neck and take him out. That was a very important transition. I could have sat there and kept punching him.

I need to let my body heal for another eight weeks and then I’ll accept a fight.

Mackenzie Dern defeated Nina Nunesvia first-round submission

Mackenzie Dern:

When I was in mount, I was trying to mix punching and attacking for the submission. If I was just attacking the submission, maybe it would have been a little bit easier. We had maybe 20 seconds left, so I didn’t want to go back to my corner and then start standing up again. I was focused on getting the submission before the round ended.

My goal was to get a first-round submission. I was the underdog and she was the favorite. Getting the first-round submission just proves that everything is going well and I’m able to do everything I’ve been doing in training. Everything I did in the fight, we did in the warm-up room. I was happy to be able to put my game plan into this fight against such a game opponent like Nina.

Even though this was only a one-round fight, when I land something you can still tell I get excited. Even though I’m getting calmer and I’m getting better technically, but it can be dangerous when you smell that blood like a shark in the water and try to go after it. Fighters will fire back and have counters. That’s the biggest thing—when I feel I land something, don’t get so excited and go in recklessly.

I just want to see who wins with Rose, Zhang, Carla and Yan. I know Joanna doesn’t have a fight, but everything depends on where I go in the rankings. I’ll just see what happens, but I definitely want someone ahead of me. I’m prepared for everyone.

Daniel Rodriguezdefeated Mike Perryvia unanimous decision

Daniel Rodriguez:

I don’t mind being a short-notice fighter. I stay ready, but given a full camp you’ll get the best of me. Full cardio and all my techniques are on point. That’s what I displayed today. I didn’t expect to get taken down. That guy’s strong. I’m not going to lie. He didn’t do any damage while he was on top and he wasn’t able to keep me down. With a full camp you’re just going to get this version of me.

I’ll fight anybody. It’s really up to the UFC. I’ve got some good momentum going. The company knows an exciting fighter when it sees one, and I’m it. It’s up to the UFC in what they want to do and how they want to showcase me.
