Golf Saudi continues to inspire as Korda battles elements to claim Aramco Team Series London Win

The latest edition of the Aramco Team Series presented by PIF has concluded at Centurion Club, London, UK, with Nelly Korda crowned the individual champion while Georgia Hall captained their fourball to team victory.

Korda, from the USA, secured victory with a final round score of two-under, which included birdies on the 1st, 12th and 18th., for an overall score of 11-under.

This is Korda’s second Aramco Team Series victory following her win in Sotogrande last year. Speaking about the global golf series, the 24-year-old expressed: “I enjoy them a lot. I think they’re super fun. The first two days playing with the team, it’s pretty easygoing. And then the third day, you’re just out there for yourself and it’s nice getting to know the girls out here on the LET. But overall, I’ve had a really nice experience playing in these events.”

Meanwhile, over the first two days of the Ladies European Tour (LET) event, which is backed by Golf Saudi and the Saudi Golf Federation, Hall led her teammates, including Kylie Henry, Lea Anne Bramwell and amateur Michael Austick, to the coveted team title.

While much of the attention was on the professional golfers, Saudi Arabia was well-represented in the Pro-Am and by amateurs in the innovative team championship, most notably by the rising star, Lujain Khalil. Making her debut as a championship amateur, Lujain shone, clinching the Longest Drive on the 6th hole during the Pro-Am. Her triumph highlights the promising advancement of women’s golf in Saudi Arabia and serves as an inspiration for young women in the sport.

The Aramco Team Series features five tournaments played globally, and it was London’s turn this past week, following Singapore and Florida earlier in 2023. The fourth Aramco Team Series event of 2023 will tee off in Hong Kong from 6-8 October before the fifth and final leg takes place in the Saudi capital Riyadh, at the prestigious Riyadh Golf Club – the first time the city will host a professional female golf tournament.

Taking place from 27-29 October, the Riyadh event marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Aramco Team Series, as the newly forged partnership with the Future Investment Initiative (FII) Institute will showcase the close relationship between golf and business.

On the site of the Aramco Team Series event in London, Golf Saudi’s Mass Participation team set up golf coaching clinics led by Saudi coaches, inviting young students including Saudi nationals and their families to participate in various golf-related activities with the objective of creating a positive effect for the first-timers.

Noah Alireza, CEO of Golf Saudi, said: “Our goals, and those of the Aramco Team Series, are in perfect alignment with those of Vision 2030, and we remain committed to delivering on the ambitious objectives of our leadership.

“London’s champions deserve our congratulations, but also worthy of celebration is the incredible growth of this sport in the Kingdom and the Saudi population’s increasing passion for golf.”
