The 2nd MENA Desalination Projects Forum kicks off in Dubai to discuss $50bn upcoming desalination mega projects

The 2nd edition of the MENA Desalination Projects Forum kicks off today at Movenpick Grand Al Bustan Hotel in Dubai and virtually via bespoke virtual conferencing technology.
More than 200 high-level participants including Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA), Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) and Acciona will attend across the two-day conference that sees 27 experts in the water sector from across the MENA region discussing the upcoming desalination projects and the progress being made towards the 2030 water agenda.
MENA Desalination Projects Forum is officially supported by key governmental bodies such as; Saline Water Conversion Corporation – Saudi, Ministry of Electricity and Water – Kuwait, Holding Company for Water and Wastewater Egypt, National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water and International Water Management Institute.
The Forum is hosting 22 exhibitors displaying their latest technologies and innovations for the water desalination sector.
Dr. Corrado Sommarvia, Chief Executive Officer, SWPC and Chairman of MENA Desalination Projects 2021 says “I chaired the MENA desalination project conference in 2019 and I have the privilege again to chair the 2nd edition this year. The Forum is an exceptional gathering of key players in the public sector and industry this is the first event that prepares for the post pandemic season in the water sector in the MENA region. ”
Some of the key topics that being discussed in the jam-packed agenda include Alternative Energy and Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Desalination; Optimising Desalination Sustainability; Efficient Desalination Project Planning and Execution and PPP Financing in Water Desalination Infrastructure.

In addition to the series of talks and panel discussions a series of country briefings will be taking place with the spotlight on United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Kuwait. The country briefings will be presented by Charafat Afailal, Advisor and Former Minister of Water, National Company of Drink Water and Sanitization, Eng. Iqbal Altayar, Director of Technical Supervision Department, Ministry of Electricity & Water Kuwait and Eng. Mayyada Salem Al Bardan, Manager of Research & Study Department, Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority – SEWA.
The 2nd edition of MENA Desalination Projects Forum comprises of two days of keynote speeches, panel sessions, scientific sessions, and an exhibition, along with plenty of opportunities for networking both physically and virtually.
